How to clean and care for Shungite so it always looks like new

Shungite is fairly soft and scratches easily compared with gemstones. A few simple habits keep pyramids, spheres and pendants looking beautiful for years.

Shungite stands the test of time but is not as “hard” as many people think: its surface scratches when rubbed against hard objects, and sharp edges can chip if dropped. The right care keeps your stone looking its best.

Everyday cleaning

  • Dust it with a soft, dry cloth (a glasses cloth works well).

  • If it gets dirty, rinse it quickly under clean running water and dry it right away.

  • Do not use strong soap, bleach, alcohol or hard brushes.

Display and storage

  • Place it on a stand or a flat, stable surface; keep it away from table edges.

  • Store it separately, wrapped in soft cloth — not together with metal or harder stones.

  • Pendants and bracelets: take them off when showering, swimming, exercising or doing heavy work.

If it gets scratched

Light scratches on matte pieces usually don't show much. For polished pieces with deep scratches or chipped edges, contact the seller for advice on re-polishing instead of sanding it yourself.
