About ZenGems
From a 2-billion-year-old stone to your space
Shungite is named after the village of Shunga in Karelia (Russia) — almost the only place in the world where this stone is mined. It is rich in carbon and contains fullerenes, a rare form of carbon molecule.
Every ZenGems piece is ground by hand and keeps the stone's natural veining — so the stone on your desk carries a story of its own.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Shungite is a black, carbon-rich stone (about 30–98% carbon) that formed around 2 billion years ago and is mined mainly in Karelia, Russia. It contains fullerenes — a rare form of carbon molecule.
Elite Shungite (also called silver Shungite) has a carbon content above 90%, a silvery metallic surface and is rarer. The regular kind is matte black and easy to craft into pyramids, spheres and cubes.
The stone has a hardness of about 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale, so avoid knocks and rubbing against hard objects. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth; do not soak it for long in soapy water.
